| Glad you enjoyed them. A number of those pictures were taken by my son (14) e.g the reflection of the bubble car in the windows of the unit. He is developing an eye for a good photo. |

| Hi. I would be DEEPLY surprised if that was actually no.24. Given that it is facing downhill, there is no nameplate on the running boards (see your own early picture to compare), and there are only 3 suports for the handrail, not 4, this suggests it is in fact no.26, later no.29. This was an RSH engine, with a shorter saddle tank. It left the KESR in 1984 or so, and has just been returned to steam at GCR(N). Nice to see her as she was, though! |

| Not labelled but you're no doubt aware this is Manning Wardle 060ST 'Arthur', formerly at APCM Kent Works, Stone, near Dartford. I believe it's now on the Middleton Railway where it's been renamed. |

| I remeber these open days well and remeber riding on the footplate, simply invited up by the driver and then standing next to a very large, hot fire! I was 14 at the time and also remeber been told off for being in the pits under a diesel unit. Health and safety hadn't been 'invented' then but despite the access we had to the locos, I don't remeber getting hurt! |

 1309, a C&O class H-6 2-6-6-2. It was the last steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works (1949). Many articulated locomotives are erroneously called "Mallets". 1309 is a true Mallet. It is both articulated and has high and low-pressure cylinders. B&O Museum |
