A poster advertising steam hauled excursion trains. Unfortunately all in Japanese Sun 2nd Sep 2007: Japanese Steam Locomotive Museum Kyoto August 2007
Photos taken at the Japanese Steam Locomotive Museum Kyoto August 2007.

Umekoji Roundhouse in Kyoto used to be a major engine depot on the heavily operated Tokaido main line, but now serves as a steam engine museum. With a large steam collection covering almost all classes built just after Japan's modern steam era had begun, the museum offers a good oppotunity to learn about Japanese steam engine heritage.
Reasonably priced at 400Yen (<2.00) for adults an 200yen for children. Plus a supplement for the thrice daily 1Km run.

The museum holds 16 locomotives of which 7 are advertised as steam-able at present.

Thanks to the members of the Japanese railway society from where I sourced the information about the locomotives

Class 185 185113 and on the right the old Cleethorpes station building. Sat 3rd Feb 2007: Cleethorpes Railway Station
Cleethorpes Railway Station opened in 1867.

Now served by trains to Barton on Humber; Lincoln and the Transpeninne Express.

Like most stations serving seaside destinations, it has seen better days.

Hard to believe there used to be a through service to London with Deltic hauled trains and latterly HSTs.

The station used to have 6 platforms - only 3 of which appear usable now.

A few shots in the gathering gloom of late January from Melton Ross, Brokelsby Junction and Ulceby
1 Ulceby station it is here the branch leaves the line to Immingham Sat 27th Jan 2007: The branch line to Barton on Humber
The branch line to Barton on Humber from Ulceby used to be a line to New Holland where the Humber ferry connected the South and North banks of the Humber, with a spur to Barton on Humber. The Humber ferry was withdrawn on 24th June 1981- the day that the Humber bridge was opened. The station on the pier was closed and a new halt opened closer to the town and all trains now run to Barton on Humber

The service on the branch is a 2 hourly one run from Cleethorpes and passenger numbers seem very light. How long this branch will carry on must be open to doubt.
